Sakib Mahmood

I am an Assistant Professor at BRAC University and a Research Fellow at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

My primary area of research is development economics, with a focus on gender, labor markets, and migration. I use field experiments to study how low-cost interventions can improve economic outcomes for vulnerable populations. Much of my work involves close partnerships with NGOs and other stakeholders to design and evaluate both pilots and programs at scale.

My current work examines gender dynamics in labor markets and schools, including women’s participation in digital work and inter-gender relations among youth; social norms around early marriage and intimate partner violence; firm behavior and productivity; and the economic reintegration of return migrants.

I received my BA, MS, and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
